Description

When playing MP3 over SMB in ST (PS3 connected on HDMI), the sound is very distorted. It doesn't happen if I play the file in XMB (via DLNA).

History

Note it used to work fine in previous releases, but I can't pinpoint when the regression has been introduced.

No. The playback is smooth but the sound is completely distorted :(

Is connection to SMB server made via WiFi?

#5 Updated by Leonid Protasov over 7 years ago

Can't reproduce that on PS3/Linux/RPI ST 4.3.634. Sound plays fine. SMB share is on Windows 7.
Can you attach the sample?

Whole evening playing on ST on PS3 different mp3 via Win7 SMB share and didn't get a single error. I need your samples.

Not reproducible.

Agreed, not reproducible anymore (retried with the same songs and the latest build) but the bug should be filed under invalid instead of fixed.

#9 Updated by Ema Nymton almost 7 years ago

I could reproduce the bug. It's linked to the sound gain. Steps to reproduce:
1. Play a movie, crank up the audio gain to its maximum value (+12 dB)
2. Stop the movie
3. Play a song: the sound will be distorted
4. Play a movie, reset the audio gain to 0 dB
5. Stop the movie
6. Play a song: the sound won't be distorted anymore.

  • Target version set to 4.8

When you increase the master volume audio might be distorted.

If you don't want distorted sound, don't increase the master volume in Showtime (Instead increase it on your TV or Amp, etc)

One option is to change (in settings -> video)

"Up / Down during video playback controls: Master volume" to "Per-file volume"

Then you won't affect the music playback volume (nor any other video files, for that matter)

The audio gain cannot be adjusted when playing music. The audio gain set up when playing videos shouldn't be carried forward when playing music
