Introduce yourselves.

Added by Girish Patel about 9 years ago

I keep seeing the same names in this PS3 forum and I thought it would be good to know more about the people who are posting. Nothing too personal but just to get a feel what the person is like, age, location, what they do etc. I'll go first :)

My name is Girish and I'm aged 38 from England. I've been a professional graphic/web designer for around 15 years now. Studied Graphic design, Advertising Media. Married with 3 boys (who love Showtime by the way too!). Main hobby is recording and writing music. And lastly love testing/using Showtime :)

The 3 greatest wishes in time for showtime:
1 - Play mkv larger than 4 GB from a USB HDD. (NTFS, EXT3) - For now splited rar can be a good alternative.
2 - Improve movie jukebox (cover, synopsis, trailer) with online or offline scraper.
3 - Samba shared folder with windows XP, Seven.

RE: Introduce yourselves. - Added by Kal-El Junior about 9 years ago

lol this is more like a support/bug reporting forum, I wouldn't class this as a 'PS3 forum'.

Name: Kal-El
Country: England (London to be precise)
Age: 18 (1992)
Job: None, looking for a part time job though, even with mostly A*'s, A's and a 2 B's, no one wants to employ me!
What I do? Currently in college studying English lit, English Lang, Psychology & IT.

The 3 greatest wishes in time for Showtime:
1 - Stream 1080p content without freezing, stopping or crashing.
2 - Artwork for movies!
3 - For Showtime not to add that effect it adds to audio, I don't know if it's some sort of effect, or -
because its decoding twice, I dunno, it just makes audio sound horrible, like someones been playing around with the equalizer and adding effects to it.

RE: Introduce yourselves. - Added by Ajith Thampi about 9 years ago

Love the idea of getting to know the current user base of Showtime. Who knows, maybe we few would be put on the 'Hall of Fame' ' someday when Showtime becomes huge. :-)

Name: Ajith Thampi
Country India and Australia
Age: 31
Job: working as a Software Consultant in Application LifeCycle Management. So basically into IT but away from the hard core programming domain.
The 3 greatest wishes in time for Showtime:
1. A media player does that everything without the bloat.
2. A very attractive display interface that is simple yet powerful. Should have animations and icons to everything.
3. Iphone/android exclusive Showtime app that can trigger media to media renderer. This app to have an awesome media centre animated user interface. Or simply make show time portable enough to have aandroid version with animation support.

I'm Dennis Hyatt :) 22 years old

I like in North Carolina. Huge gaming fan. Showtime is probably one of the most used apps on my PS3 though, because it's the only easy way I have of getting content from the PC to the TV. Although I have a laptop with HDMI output, and can stream content to the PS3 from my PC, I still prefer a native player on it that can handle my videos.

Do any of you game on your PS3, or do you all just use it as a media player?

The main reason I bought a PS3 was to be a media/3d blu ray player. It's an extra that it plays games.

Fun initiative!

My name is Andreas Öman, 33 years old, lives in Stockholm, Sweden with my girlfriend (nope, we're not married.. yet) and our two kids.
I work as a software engineer at Spotify

My greatest wish is to somehow find more time to do all the stuff others wants to get done :-)

I agree with all of the things mentioned here and I think most of them are covered in feature requests already.

RE: Introduce yourselves. - Added by Rusty Unknown about 9 years ago

Sweet, Andreas joined in :)

@Andreas I'm curious. I'm guessing you started Showtime for your own HTPC setup at home. What made you want to support the PS3 platform?

Personally, I think it is probably one of the best moves to actually get this software out to more people. It certainly looks like you got a lot more user activity with the PS3 release.

But what exactly made you interested in taking on the challenge?

I'm not sure how old your kids are, but are they or other family members use to using Showtime and love it, or do they call daddy to come put the movie on? :p I remember you saying one of your kids enjoys the first 10 seconds of videos, ha :p

@Kal-El Junior

What are some of your favorite games? I have plenty of games but I've rarely completed any of them from start to finish (Somehow I always get bored and quit), but I did complete and enjoy Heavy Rain from start to finish.

I wish there were more titles like that, because it was very entertaining, exciting and relaxing at the same time.

I've also played Killzone 3 co-op campaign from start to finish via split screen with a friend of mine. It's much more enjoyable to play through it with a friend. The graphics in that game are simply stunning and the voice acting good as well.

I have more but I'll stop there before I bore people :)

Fun challenge. I always wanted to do it but not until the 3.55 geohot cfw came out I decided to give it a try (TBH I didn't know that psl1ght existed before that)
Thanks to the face that Showtime have previously been ported to Wii it's rather portable already so I had the first working version that could play
audio running in a few days after purchasing my PS3 (early january). Then I lost interest and it was not until I started reading some noise on the
psx-scene forums that I decided to finish the port (Had to be first, right? :-).

I don't use the PS3 for anything else. Never played a game on it. Don't own a game either. For all I know the BD-drive could just as well be defunct :-)

I'm not sure how old your kids are, but are they or other family members use to using Showtime and love it, or do they call daddy to come put the movie on? :p I remember you saying one of your kids enjoys the first 10 seconds of videos, ha :p

One is 2 years and one is 3 months. The older can play/pause video files but that's about as far as it goes :-)

RE: Introduce yourselves. - Added by Rusty Unknown almost 9 years ago

I'm glad you decided to continue the work :-)

I think everyone who desired to play media on their PS3 quickly realized that the default build-in support for media playback had a very limited set of codec/format support (very disappointing).
Up until Showtime, the only solid solution was PC (PS3 Media Server/real-time transcoder) -> PS3 -> TV. This works fairly well, but has high PC requirements and some incompatibilities (odd output on some file types).

I know that Showtime is not perfect, but I have a lot of content, and so far I have only had to re-encode one file. That is a much better compatibility rate.

So you wanted to be the first one to get a media player working on PS3? :-) A lot of users would always complain that they wanted XBMC (XBOX Media Center), but recently I saw a post that said someone couldn't get a video to play on XBMC because of a high bitrate value, but it worked on PS3/Showtime. So, you have something to boast about!

I think I honestly use Showtime more than games or other apps on my PS3 at the moment. However, make no mistake, the PS3 has some excellent games. I'm sure they have something of interest to you, if you enjoy games at all. I'm sure your kids wouldn't mind some :p Just make sure they work on 3.55, because we need your continued Showtime support :D

You're from Sweden right? Unfortunately I'm only aware of one music artist I like from there (BassHunter). You're probably a bit too old to enjoy his kind of music though, haha...

Speaking of music, what kind of music do you like? Do you like to listen to classical songs like Beethoven while you code Showtime? Or, maybe you like something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5W_wd9Qf0IE

Is your job like this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eq3CuMDXaPs

I imagine that you and Showtime looks more like this (need to hear audio for best effect): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QiZHPdu0v6w

RE: Introduce yourselves. - Added by Carlos Eduardo Ruhrwiem almost 9 years ago

Well, this has been stoped for a while but i wanted to join in! :)

Name: Carlos
Country: Brazil
Age: 26
Job: IT Developer
Showtime: Will be my major media player, and will be using it at PS3. I found out about the samba protocol and now it makes everything work at my place using the showtime with my D-Link DNS-325 NAS. Just so you know Andreas... I'm buying a PS3 because of showtime :P games will be a plus...
A wish for showtime:
1 - Plays all my movies with subtitles. (Stupid upnp protocol that doesn't allow my Samsung TV to stream it directly from the NAS)

I'll be gratuating soon so i'll have some free time... if someone got plans for an integration with Android App please contact me (I have experience with Android and Java). I'll be happy to help showtime project.

btw: this would do a nice fixed post on the general forum :)

RE: Introduce yourselves. - Added by Rusty Unknown almost 9 years ago

If you are buying a PS3, you currently need a PS3 with firmware version 3.55 or lower.

A developer has noted on twitter that a new firmware will be released when he is finished for 3.73, but the release date is unknown. Maybe a month? Only the developer really knows.

So, you may not be able to use Showtime if you have a higher PS3 software version installed, until a newer custom firmware is released.

Just letting you know :)

Got one! :) Now I'm on the Showtime users team!! \o/

Everything installed running great. BTW Awesome work with Showtime. I've just made my humble donation and if anyone wants some help in Portuguese (Brazil) translation or android app development to integrate with Showtime let me know.
