Hm ok, not good. This is log from my devices (same thing: Raspberry Pi-2 Model B (Sony) 1GB) but here it works ok.
I have a slightly older stos though. lemme try to upgrade that.

Does it show the startup "Booting..." screens in lower resolution as well?

no the booting... fonts ... even formating partition message etc are in the correct resolution ....
i don't know i tried with the latest stos you have in the site too... my tv is an LG 42'' Scarlet LG6000 its kind old but works great with movian from first release i didnt change anything else my sd is class 10 new one
i am flashing the sd with a program call http://www.tweaking4all.com/hardware/raspberry-pi/macosx-apple-pi-baker/ apple-pi-baker (like Win32 Disk Image for windows )
and i use https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/ sd formater to format first the sd
always this i way i did it on my mac
on windows i use
Win32 Disk Image and again the sd formater for win
is there any way to force choose a resolution or something ....
thanks Andreas

just edit config.txt
hdmi_ignore_edid=0xa5000080
hdmi_group=1
hdmi_mode=31

Hm.. should we put some of these in the default configuration?
RE: Wrong resolution on RPI 2

i thing the some resolutions has to be in the look and feel menu and to choose the one you need (with a reboot of course ) then just the option will be written on the config.txt and that's it....
