How do I change Showtime's look? Backgrounds/ Skins/ Plugins?

Added by Lucian Grey about 9 years ago

This might look like stupid, but I've been having a hard time figuring out how to change the general looks of Showtime. I didn't know that changing that blue-stripes-background can be this hard :)

From whatever info I've been gathered so far, it seems there is only one optional looks for showtime, that is a skin achieved by installing [Oceanus] plugin.

The other way is setting an image for background. But as release 4.4, this option doesn't seem to be included in showtime-4.4.pkg. My guess is that I have to install this additional [Custom Background 1.3] plugin.

Here's my first big hurdle: if my PS3 not connected to the internet, how can I get these plugins? The plugins page on this site doesn't seem to have DL links for them.

You can't right now. For that you would have to install the plugin (which can be done manually). But as you've noticed there are no download links on the site :-(

I'll try to fix download links next time i revisit that part of the site (can't really promise when)

Maybe repo could just contain or is containing a file(xml etc) with all plugins download links? That just could simplify the life of offline users...
That way wiki FAQ could just contain a single line answer to that question ;)

Or, perhaps there exist some kind of quick temporary band-aid solution, something like "background.jpg" file that I can locate using Multiman's File Manager, and then manually swap it with an image of my preference? :)

BTW, I do have one other feature request. I'm not sure where to submit it, I guess I just write it here (also to see if it's possible/ relevant enough to be considered). When you use the directional button/ L2-R2 to seek/ fast forward, the movie always fade to black. I wonder if it is possible to include an option to not fade to black. Maybe just freeze/ hold the last frame if it needs buffering or something.

Maybe it's just me, but I do literally feel a bit nausea whenever that fade to black effect kicks in. It feels like I'm about to pass out of low blood pressure or something. :)

From that file it looks like the download link for custom background plugin is "http://showtime.lonelycoder.com/plugins/data/3a35a0f9421c3a04ce53426e2d401012ee787a0f"

I only get a single 1KB file from that link - OSX shows it as "document" file without any file extension. I'm convinced that I did something wrong there. :D

Ah, thanks. So I added [.zip] to that 1KB file and extracted those 3 files. Now it's probably the last step: in which folder do I put these three files in the PS3?

Finally free of that blue striped background. How liberating :D

Now onto changing the icons ... err... it'll be much more complicated, won't it?

Some of the graphics i think are in the Oceanus plugin:

http://showtime.lonelycoder.com/plugins/data/9ab9725cf17e374c55561c2e9b1292c2ae2f1471

Installation probably the same as the background change.

In the repository section in directory:

"git / glwskins / default / graphics"

You can find another parts of .png - but don't know how to easily build your own showtime.self/pkg ;)

I've browsed ps3 but didn't find any graphics in the Showtime directory, so I'm assuming they are in the .self file ? :)

Btw.
What background are you using now, can you link it here ?

Exactly. That's why I said "it'll be much more complicated" - because I can't find some kind of graphic files inside Showtime's folder. :D

I haven't settled for any particular background, but for now I use the one attached.

Nice! :)

As for building your own showtime, found it on GitHub

https://github.com/andoma/showtime

I will get into that tomorrow and try to build it myself (with some changes in graphics) at first I must recall the PSL1GHT building stuff procedure/environment :)

But if you know how to do it, then feel free to try ;)

Gosh I really struggled to understand that:
1- Only PNG images are accepted
2- Only internet URLs are accepted (unless I'm missing something?). I thought we could simply indicate a local path...

Here's my background for today (not by me of course, I just redimensionned/cropped it): http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/628818Background4.png
