Samba (cifs) connection refused

Added by zoe joe almost 7 years ago

Hi everyone,

First of all great work on showtime, it's really becoming an xbmc killer for me.
With all the recent changes in the ps3 scene (cobra7 integrated fw) iso loading etc. I moved from sharing a folder on my pc to buying a NAS (to save electricity costs running my pc). Sharing from my windows machine has never been a problem but now struggling to get samba sharing on my nas (medion) based on the zyxel 212 running FFP 0.07

the log file shows: SMB [DEBUG]:Unable to connect to 192.168.178.24:445 - Connection refused

For now im using the NAS DLNA but would rather use smb. Help is greatly appreciated.

If it says connection refused then the NAS is probably not even listening on the CIFS port (445). Can you access samba on it from any other machine?

As a workaround, if your NAS can do FTP you can access it using FTP from showtime as well.

Just type ftp://192.168.178.24 in the search-bar (or add as a bookmark).

Thank you for the reply, i upgraded my native firmware samba from 3.0.32 with the help of ffp to 3.6.6. I copied the firmware smb.confg which had this line in it:
smb ports = 139 i tried changing it to 445 and also completly removing this line, still getting connection refused. Connections from windows7 and android tablet are ok. Will try ftp till i can sort it out, help is greatly appreciated thanks again Andreas, keep up the good work.

edit: to add using netstat -lptn in terminal showed:

[email protected]:~# netstat -lptn | grep mbd
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:139 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 1946/smbd

EDIT: to add. I have some succes when filling in the bookmark: smb://192.168.178.24:139/share
it will connect and work. Thanks again for making me run this gem on my ps3, happy days.

Ok nice. Maybe should should just try to connect to 139 if 445 does not work.

I'm not sure why there are two different port and if there is any real difference between them

Good read about ports: http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/SetUpSamba

(Old system)
Port 137 – UDP NetBIOS name service (WINS)
Port 138 – UDP NetBIOS datagram
Port 139 – TCP NetBIOS Session (TCP), Windows File and Printer Sharing (this is the most insecure port)

(Active Directory)
Port 445 - Microsoft-DS Active Directory, Windows shares (TCP)
Port 445 - Microsoft-DS SMB file sharing (UDP)

(1-4/4)
