PS3 Showtime 2.99.284 probs

Added by Lipor Licor about 10 years ago

First of all I would like to thank all the people involved on this brutal app! It´s very very useful!

My suggestions/remarks:
- 1080p works
- at any TV resolution .RMVB (real media variable bitrate, 624x384 with COOK or AAC audio) files play the video slow (<10fps). Audio is ok so it gets out of sync with video.
- 720p MKV files play slow
- AVI files play well, even when showtime is set to 1080p
- subtitles are too smal: perhaps more font sizes + subtitle placement change

I imagine >80% of people use mostly AVI (divx, xvid) + RMVB + .SRT subtitles so, until these formats are played at real time it will be difficult to use showtime daily.
Personally I would love to be able to watch my personal backups in DIVX and RMVB on my PS3 without any conversion... (of course I want MKV too but until major SD formats do not run well I believe the HD ones have to wait).

I imagine >95% of people who love High Quality Video use mostly MKV(H.264+FLAC or AAC) , MP4(H.264 or AAC), BDMV

720p MKV(H.264+AAC) work fine

People (worldwide) still do their backups heavily using RMVB and MKV HD. Most Portuguese or Spanish - language countries (Portugal, Spain, Central & South America, Mexico, big part of EUA) still RMVB files a lot + MKV HD and so far these struggle on my setting (PS3 fat + 3.55 + 720p or 1080p TV).

I agree that HQ is with those formats but that´s not the question here, it´s IMO which formats are more popular and if it plays them. MKV 1080p (h264 + DTS-HD) is the best nevertheless few use it.

There is no best, only better

Yeah, I've had a few problems with 720p MKV files too on my fat PS3 on 3.55. Seeking forward or rewinding have a lot of trouble, and a few of the files even stop playing midway through and kick me back to the Showtime menu.

I've checked the files on my computer's MKV player and they play fine there, so I don't know if it's a Showtime decoder issue or what. Hopefully we'll get some improvements beyond 2.99.284, because it's getting closer and closer to working with each revision!
