yes it supports subs at least srt which I tested. but you need to select the subs manually in the playing control interface(press triangle when playing video file). I think showtime should load subs with same name of the video file automatically though. 'laggy' is a seprate problem.

Thanks for your answer, but I mean integrated subs, not in a separate .srt file (Eg. any Horrible Subs naruto anime file), it's posible to display them?

well, I haven't tried that. it's better the developers to answer this.

Yeah it should support built-in subtitles in MKV fiels (raw text and SSA is supported) + a few more bitmap oriented formats should work.
If you have a file that does not work, please make it available so I can test and fix.

Hey KH Kion.
I tried some MKV files that had soft subtitles (meaning, the subtitles e.g ASS/SSA is within the MKV container) and everything works :)
It's true that the playback for MKV files is laggy, but the subtitle support is all there
Imagine this program like. . .PS3 Media Server, but instead of letting the hard-work be placed on the computer. It's integrated within the PS3.
Which, I must say, is much neater

I have also had some trouble getting subs to work with PS3 Showtime.
I've backed up a bunch of purchased DVDs into 720x480 mkvs that I ripped and encoded using DVDFab and HandBrake, and I can verify (using Media Player Classic on my PC) that the subtitles are properly in there as separate streams.
Showtime correctly shows that there are separate streams, and even labels them as English subtitles, but when I select the stream there's no change. No subtitles come up.
Miracle at St. Anna is one file off the top of my head that I recently tried but couldn't get Showtime to get the subs going. It's like a 900MB mkv file. Should I look into making it available for you to test?

Yes please.. Samples are always welcome. I don't think I need the entire file. Just as much as is needed to show off the problems.

Okay, I re-encoded one chapter of the file and uploaded it here: http://www.multiupload.com/W0QTGHSTX8
I haven't tested that file specifically yet, but I assume it won't work because it's source file is the full movie, which did not work throughout. Let me know if you can reproduce my difficulties on the PS3 with displaying subtitles.
And thanks!

I don't know how SHOWTIME displays subtitles but if it uses FFMPEG then maybe it has problems with UTF-8 subtitles? Try convert them to ANSI...
@Ben Epp:
Why you reencoded it?
Use MKVToolnix package. Then you can cut any part from original stream without reencoding in few seconds. More useful sample for testing instead of reencoding=different file from original.

Thanks ExSport, I had no idea MKVToolnix could do that! Great help. I'll definitely do that in the future.

Any news on internal subs :(? Do you want me to cut a part of the video I'm testing Andreas?

andreas, I congratulate you, with this new release the integrated subs now work and the MKV files run very fast that's very cool, they only have a simple bug (When the subs are coded with Italic, it doesn't display it on italic, it shows {i}TEXT HERE{/i} or in bold, it shows {b}TEXT HERE{\b}) but that really doesn't matter, because now I can read the subs and I can see the video at FULL HD!!!
Thanks again my friend! ^^ I really appreciate your work

Would it be able to have an option to turn subs on by default? As in, they start with the video instead of having to manually turn them on each time. I apologize if this is already possible and I just haven't figured it out.

How about embedding the subtitle into movies? This issue may also relate to MKV files. Sometimes MKV files on PS4 would be lagging and buffering with wrong audio or video codec. Just see this one:[[http://www.videoconverterfactory.com/tips/can-ps4-play-mkv.html]]
